Bio

"Stella Farnan’s debut EP ‘Come Stay At Mine’ invites you into a world of warmth, scrutiny and celebration across seven tracks of timeless songwriting that vibrate with edge and heart. Stella’s dew-drop fresh voice delivers catchy melodies that soar across and creep amongst rich and sparkling rock/pop textures with a soul-bearing honesty that bursts with the golden warmth of nostalgia while rumbling with the vibrance of the present.

The songs spilled out across Stella’s late teen years as a reflection on the playful, wide-eyed wonder of youth while looking onward to the cusp of adulthood. The original sentiments of the songs rang true years later when Stella befriended musician Soren Maryasin (Soren, engineering on The Teskey Brothers’ Grammy-nominated LP) who went on to produce, engineer and play on the EP. Together, they siphoned the warmth and energy of Stella’s songwriting across the recording process to breathe new life into the seven tracks.

‘Come Stay At Mine’ ruminates on the way we seek comfort - both its undeniable importance and stifling danger. The songs act as both self-criticism and self encouragement, scrutinising sentimentality and apathy within and without. As the world crumbles around us, Stella wonders: are we building our hiding places with love and open arms, or simply to block out the noise? Intricate guitars and broad indie-rock textures push and pull as Stella’s voice reels you in with strength, nuance and a bittersweet sincerity.

From the first four singles, Stella received national radio play on Triple J and community radio around the country, was added to multiple Spotify editorial playlists including ‘Fresh Finds AU & NZ’ and ‘Soft Glow’, as well as Unearthed Radio rotation. Along with band members Soren Maryasin (Soren, The Teskey Brothers engineering), Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper) and Elena Jones (Sunfruits), Stella has supported acts including Ali Barter and Tulliah, and played alongside Alex Lahey, Japanese Wallpaper, Gretta Ray and Alice Ivy in a bushfire benefit show."

you know that cartoon imagery where the person just hinges open the top half of their head. i'm feeling like stella farnan can do that as she drops you in her thoughts and wraps you up in the problems, stories and joys of living.

Stella's had a productive 2021 between this track, The Blue and Boxes. She conjures lucid imagery like muscle memory showing her swole songwriting gains (sorry).
