Bio

While a tumultuous 2020 took the world by storm, Stonehaven utilised time spent quarantining writing and self-producing a unique, energetic, anthemic yet emotion-driven take on alt-rock.

The Brisbane, Australia-based four-piece is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Sam Woods, who was inspired by the energetic yet melodic sounds of bands such as Balance and Composure, Bring Me The Horizon, and Don Broco and wanted to offer a unique perspective on the genre. Luke Woods, Sam’s brother, soon joined on drums and began the writing and recording process, which began in the brother’s apartment in Brisbane City. Members Mitch Perry (guitar) and Tate Senhenn (bass, backing vocals) soon joined the five-piece outfit, completing a lineup of friends and talented musicians that are no strangers to the stage.

While mid-air flying to Melbourne to record drums with Callan Orr of Avalanche Studios (and Dream on Dreamer), the state of Victoria announced its initial upcoming lockdown, leading the band to have to recoup and reconsider the entire process for recording their debut record. Sam, Luke, Mitch, and Dan soon joined forces in moving to the southside of Brisbane and building a fully soundproof studio in their garage, where all of the band's music was self-recorded and produced before being sent to Callan to mix and master.

Individually, the four members are no strangers to the stage, having played festivals such as Bluesfest, Caloundra Music Festival, Gold Coast’s Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, Schema Festival, and sharing the stage with artists such as Young Lions, The Brave, Deadlights, Windwaker, and a myriad of other notable acts. With members hailing from a variety of bands across many genres such as Babirusa, SUNFLOWER, and Arlington, Stonehaven’s unique approach to alt-rock is sure to inspire.

Fans of energy, poignant lyricism, and soothing melodies should look no further as Stonehaven’s self-produced debut single The Colours Inside My Mind is set to release November 20 2020. Hidden under a veil of massive drums and distorted guitars lies a myriad of soothing ambience, flowing clean guitars and a message sure to speak into the hearts and souls of anyone needing reassurance in these crazy times that humanity is facing in 2020.
