Stoney Joe create atmospheric, electro-acoustic soundscapes and big, swaggering western music that’ll get your feet tapping and pull on your heartstrings in the wink of an eye.

A live favourite in their home state of Western Australia, the band performs with a dizzying array of traditional and modern instruments. Fingerpicking strings, banjo and slide guitars with ocarinas, spoons, stomp-box and a vintage 1980s synthesizer. The band’s rootsy approach to folktronica and unique song writing talents give their live shows an idiosyncratic tilt, helped along by glorious (if somewhat rough & ready) 4-part vocal harmonies. Stoney Joe are that rare band who is as at home in a pub, theatre or lounge room as they are on a Festival stage, having impressed audiences at Fairbridge Folk Festival, Nannup Music Festival, Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, Fremantle Winter Music Festival, Fringe World and Wave Rock Weekender in recent times.

The band formed in 2011 and have since released two full length albums with Brown Bread and Rice (2012) and Hot Jerky (2013). Three years wait for their third release is no accident. The band has been experimenting with a darker, laid-back acoustic swagger, taking more excursions into downbeat electronica hinted at on their debut. They've collaborated with other musicians along the way, including the sold-out 2015 Fringe World Festival show, 'Brothers & Sisters - The Music of O Brother, Where Art Thou'.

Stoney Joe’s third album, ‘Fuel for the Fire’ is set for release on June 4, 2016 through Head Records.

Such a beautifully mellow tune. There's a lot of little interesting sounds going on in the background too. One to listen to just before you go to sleep.

Beautiful mix of new and old. The parts all work together creating the illusion of simplicity but the more I listen, the more I hear.
