About
The Sunday Reeds are named after Melbourne ‘30s/40s patron of the arts Sunday Reed. Romana Ashton and Drew Jones formed the band in 2009 as a duo and quickly started performing as a three piece after their first release ‘Drowning in History’ (2009) caught the attention of UK indie label Squirrel Records. They toured the UK in 2010 and have played numerous shows in Australia. Along the way they burnt bridges, ended relationships and had nervous breakdowns. At one point the founding duo spent three days in Paris during a relationship break-up. The irony of being in the most romantic city in the world during a break-up was not lost on them and has culminated in their latest self-released EP ‘Amour Tragique’ (Tragic Love). A collection of five songs that detail doomed romances and love lost, ‘Amour Tragique’ combines the grittiness and angst of ‘90s grunge with the pop sensibilities of ‘60s pop and rock ‘n’ roll and a good measure of old fashioned blues and ‘80s new wave/post punk ...
