"Kronk is a lesson in the art of surprise. TEEM have played in crowd-pleasing acts and it shows. Debut single Kronk starts with a driving trap hi-hat that would have fit on Dizzee’s first album under a guitar melody that is tense af. It’s a summer night in a concrete wasteland. When Bones’s vocals drop, the intensity is still there but it’s contained in a whisper. The production shows here - the vox glide between the rattling beat and the synth-guitar. Then the guitars double, and double again, and we’re suddenly in Ratatat territory. That’s the kind of journey the whole song takes you on, setting expectations and then building them up or breaking them. Kronk lifts you from the grimy gutter, plonks you into an anthemic stadium before tossing you back to the street. This is a track that rewards multiple listens - you could blast it in car and then when you get home, bliss out with your headphones on.
