Bio

Teens is the brain-child of Tasmanian based musician Shawn Arnold who grew up in the rolling hills of Lilydale in Northern Tasmania surrounded by cows and an apparent lack of sound – a perfect setting to cultivate some distinctive noise.

Initially a drummer, Shawn has crafted songs that build and release, partnering this with a sound that is an eclectic, distorted cohesion of psychedelia, alternate rock and shoe gaze influenced by the likes of Ty Segall, Sonic Youth and Thee oh Sees. Intricate guitar lines and compelling vocal melodies wash through all of Teens music that make you feel woozy while carried on a journey.

Certain songs may make you feel as if you’re travelling through the time-space continuum on the back of a half-camel-half-lion creature that can leap and bound between galaxies within seconds, while other songs remind you of that time spent driving to the beach on a late spring afternoon with the windows down, as a purple bruise-like storm rolls in behind you and the warm orange glow of the remaining sun illuminates the path ahead.

Teens are known for their dynamic on-stage presence and the way their sound makes your head reverberate after a show with post-echo-shock.

2016 has been a good year for the band, nabbing support slots for touring acts such as The Belligerents, The Ocean Party and have recently supported Good Morning on their Tasmanian Tour.

Teens have had two of their tracks played on Triple J Unearthed,
“Those climbing guitars in the chorus lifting me right up out of my seat.”
Lachie Macara of Triple J on Teens track Honey.

Teens are currently developing new material in studio that they are planning to release as an EP in early 2018 and will be playing some interstate shows to celebrate.

Cool to the touch and with a delicious crunch once you bite in - like all my fave things from the Apple Isle.
