Bio

Tess Guthrie cut her teeth as a singer/songwriter playing in local venues and music festivals along the beaches of the Surf Coast and is now based in Melbourne. Tess uses her powerful voice to tell raw and relatable stories, combining intimate moments with catchy melodies, drawing you in with her unique guitar style and disarmingly honest lyrics.

'WUTO' (Were you the one) is Tess Guthrie's first single. Recorded and co-produced by All Our Friends Music off the Gold Coast, facilitated by copious gnocchi-eating, in November 2018 and mixed by Alex O'Gorman with his toy dinosaur (Jeff) in Collingwood, Melbourne.

Hauntingly strong and arresting, I really like how the lyrics bite and those harmonies at the beginning really set the scene too. Guthrie's voice flips from an unworldly presence to the brash gal next door rocking out on her guitar in the garage!

The perfect track to have playing out loud, sitting out on your back porch. Compelling, deeper vocals. It keeps you drawn. For fans of Angie McMahon and Didirri for sure. Gorgeous. Can't wait to hear more from you.

This stuck out when I heard. Considering I'd already listen to a couple dozen tracks today I reckon that's a good sign that Tess has something going on.
