Bio

Theia is one of pop music’s most idiosyncratic acts. Her burgeoning catalogue showcases an artist who is unafraid to push boundaries and who is here to stay.

“Glossy electro pop with a central theme of empowerment and independence, Theia raises the bar yet again with her latest release” – Clash Magazine, April 2019

The independent artist and songwriter - who was born in NZ but is now based in Sydney, Australia - first emerged in 2015 with the exquisite R’n’B-infused ‘Silver Second’, produced by Alex Hope.

She followed it up in 2016 with her breakout hit ‘Roam’, which set the scene for the release of her debut EP, earning her three nominations at the 2017 NZ Music Awards and a nod for ‘Breakthrough Artist’ at the 2017 Georgie Awards. The self-titled EP received widespread radio play in NZ and Asia and has gone on to be streamed more than 15 million times on Spotify.

Theia returned in early 2019 with her second EP, NOT YOUR PRINCESS. It included the singles ‘Bye Bye’, ‘Bad Idea’, ‘Candy’ and the title track.

“Not Your Princess … combines catchy hooks with clanging, percussive productions that teeter on the experimental/mainstream edge; accessible enough that you can play them over and over again, but left-field and unique - making Theia stand out in a saturated, constantly-growing pop circuit” – Pilerats, April 2019

The NOT YOUR PRINCESS EP received two nominations in the 2019 Waiata Māori Music Awards and the single ‘Candy’ was a finalist in the pop category in the 2019 International Songwriting Competition, earning Theia a special mention.

It has been a whirlwind journey, which has taken Theia across the globe, playing shows in Australia, Asia and the United States. On both sides of the Tasman, she has opened for acts such as Sia, Tones And I, Portugal. The Man, Broods. LEON and The Kite String Tangle. She has also played at many of NZ’s largest summer festivals.

In early 2020, Theia will begin to release singles from her new body of work, the 99% ANGEL mixtape, which she wrote and recorded in Sydney with producer Liam Quinn. The record is in keeping with Theia’s reputation for pairing clever and socially conscious lyrics with bold, in-your-face production. Inspired by youth and optimism, as well as the tumultuous journey of being a young up-and-comer in the music industry, this is Theia at her fiercest.

Dayyummm girl! What a BOP. I think Lorde / Charlie XCX fans have just scored a new bffl. Theia has you totally wrapped around her finger by the end of this one. Watch out!

This track is fire! She's another singular-name artist but I reckon we could easily add a hyphenated surname to make it Theia Stefani-XCX. Bad arse attitude that doesn't f around.
