Toyah’s aesthetic is really plain to see; it’s a no bullshit approach to house music with throbbing bass lines and an emphasis on vocals.
Home to Melbourne, Toyah began her musical journey as a singer songwriter playing at pubs around Fitzroy and Collingwood. After spending her youth at sweaty nightclubs, it was inevitable that Toyah found herself hooked on driving bass lines and the heaving atmosphere that dance music created.
Currently studying at the Australian Institute of Music (Melbourne), Toyah is constantly refining her craft. Spending every spare moment composing and producing across all genres, with a trademark ‘Toyah’ style of techno and deep house with soul and pop influences.
Toyah’s music works and passion for sound stem from years of listening to the likes of The Presets, The Knife, Duke Dumont, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Röyksopp, Digitalism, Mark Kinchen, Maya Jane Coles, Nina Kraviz, Claptone, Diplo and her all time favourite, Fleetwood Mac.
Toyah is no stranger to the radio frequencies, gaining radio plays across the globe. To name a few close to home she has had radio play on Triple R, JoyFM94.9 & regular plays on HCR96.5FM (WA) and many more. For the first time Toyah graced the festival stage at Gaytimes Festival 2017, capturing the attention of punters and the Electronic Dance Music scene. Continuing to Co-Headline at A Thousand Tones Laneway festival (Melbourne).
These days you don’t have to look hard to find this chick, as she is constantly collaborating with artists from all over the world including Elle Vee (who has releases with Benni Benassi and Ken Loi) and Dani Mari (founder of Female Frequency).
Toyah was signed for 2 releases with Florida label Elestial Sound including a remix for UK artist Alix Hyde which is currently unreleased.
After recently stepping down as the bass player in Lubulwa, Toyah is currently focused on a backlog of house releases and collaborations she’s been working on with some top-notch artists, including Rya Park who you would have seen feature on Oblivion by FØRD late last year and is one of the vocalists in Tempus Sun. BUT that’s not all…
Toyah has recently been commissioned to produce remixes for artists such as; Nussy(Melb), Rya Park(Melb), Ninoosh(Sweden) and Zutsuri(California).
Toyah has also partnered up with a few international labels for some hot releases due to be announced later this year, so sit tight if you like what you hear because there’s plenty more coming.
