We ain’t the newest kids on the block, but we dress with a kind of sartorial splendour that comes from watching your dad doing the Harry High Pants at the school social. But it ain't just dressing well: V U Ray are part distortion and reverb on ten, sweet candy melodies, and sturm and drang rock. So many influences converge here, from Slade to Jesus and Mary Chain, from Brill Building pop to Australian garage rawk, that the end result sounds immediately recognisable and yet not quite like anything else. Too many chords for Glasvegas, too pop for the Raveonettes, too glam for You Am I, V U Ray survive on Marlboro soft packs, bent up old Penguin paperbacks, the flicker of 16mm film, the smell of a greasy rag and a lick of paint.
