Bio

Velvet Bow are a Melbourne-based, coastal-born group of five, fostering tunes of surf-pop with gusto.

Following the release of multiple well-written Indie tunes, the band made a decisive breakthrough with 2015 release ‘Streetlights’, garnering serious Unearthed attention and earning themselves airtime on Triple J. As well as maintaining their continued presence at By The Meadow (2013-16), the band also earned an appearance at Queenscliff Music Festival in 2015 alongside acts such as Angus and Julia Stone, the Hoodoo Gurus, Harts, Dorsal Fins, Fraser A Gorman and Foreign National. Their successful year was capped off with a 2015 tour along the East Coast of Australia that included sold out shows in Byron Bay and Geelong.

2016 saw Victorian Coastal quintet Velvet Bow tour the Surf-Coast of Victoria all the way up to the Sunshine Coast in QLD off the back of their two singles ‘Bombora’ and ‘Lilly Fuzz’ from their debut self-titled LP. Adding to their successful year Velvet Bow supported Aussie favourite Harts in Geelong and most recently played at Victorian boutique festival ‘By The Meadow’ alongside Confidence Man, Jaala, Moses Gun Collective, Banoffee and more.

Velvet Bow have spent the last two years developing their sound from fairly mellow into something punchier, fuzzy and energetic. The third single off the record is ‘Cynical Like You’ is an excellent summary of the band’s new sound and what you can expect to hear when the LP is released later in May.

Recorded by Zac Barter (Canary, Life is Better Blonde) and production by Steven Schram (San Cisco, Paul Kelly, Eagle and The Worm), ‘Cynical Like You’ debuts the band’s added horns section which will cross over into their live show to bring their work to life when they go on tour May/June to Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney and more. Check out the track below and get ready to jump off your chair and dance around (maybe with a hairbrush or water bottle mic in hand…?).

This is ablaze with energy, isn't it? Pop it alongside early Ball Park, Hey Geronimo and similarly irrepressible sort.

Those horns definitely make this a unique kind of indie-rock! A fun lil bopper.
