Bio

An energetic bunch of 5 making surf-rock-indie-pop tunes from the Surf Coast of Victoria. Guitarists Luke Wood, Ben Wade and the lovely Emma Hurley together create a unique three vocalist lineup whilst being guided by the ever reliable percussionist Peter Angliss and bass player, Matt Bourke.

Off the back of their initial 2013 release ‘Hang Me Out To Dry’ and 2015 ‘Streetlights’, the band has seen success amongst the Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, and Unearthed High charts. Last year saw them welcome a new bass player, buy a van and take their music up the East Coast on their ‘Intergalactic’ tour, and 2016 is also shaping up to see big things from the Victorian outfit.

Velvet Bow have just released their first track for 2016 titled ‘Bombora.’ A sun drenched, upbeat ode to the Victorian surf coast from which the five-piece band originates.
After months spent refining their sound for what is set to be their most serious approach to their craft, Velvet Bow return with a fuzzy, infectious tune that has you hooked from the opening riff. Bombora explores themes of loneliness but is delivered with such gusto that you can be excused for being transported to sunnier times through gritty production and breezy echoes.

Recorded locally by Zac Barter (Canary, Life Is Better Blonde) and with production by Steven Schram (San Cisco, Paul Kelly) the new track is an, albeit expertly engineered, jangling menagerie of fuzzy guitars and nonchalant basslines.
The foundations of Velvet Bow’s authentic, laid back sound stems from hours of bedroom recordings that still pave the way for the band’s playful, coastal sound. The combination of three guitarists, snare filled percussion and the balance of male / female vocals all make for a chaotic yet technical surf rock influenced sound.

Fantastic debut single. Brilliant songwriting and instrumentation, with huge vocals and harmonies to go with!
