Bio

Chances are, you’ve encountered WHALEHOUSE if you’ve ever approached one of the many quality live music venues in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley precinct in the last couple of years.

Uncompromising, loud and the best fun you’ll have at a show. WHALEHOUSE - “that’s one word, all capitals thanks very much” - are a trio of new wave-inspired, punk fiends who quickly pricked ears and turned heads upon inception. They’ve garnered attention for their energetic and ferocious live shows and have a reputation for leaving punters dazed and in a sweaty frenzy at the end of each set.

They’re the girls who met in high school, learned to play, raided their parents’ record collection, stopping at the section that housed the good stuff like Devo, The B’52’s, Blondie and Beastie Boys. The result - a metaphorical giant that smashes riot grrl with New Wave, a hulking frame of a house led by the screeching power of a mighty whale with a guide book of unforgettable anthems. 2017 saw them emerge guns blazing with a list of impressive performances alongside the likes of L..A. Witch, Iron Chic, WAAX, Velociraptor, The Orwells and showcase at BIGSOUND.

2018 sees the band in the studio properly for the first time with emerging producer Aidan Hogg (WAAX, Landings) to lay down their debut single-proper ‘Sexy Whale Beach Party’. It was mixed by L.A.-via-Brisbane’s Miro Mackie (Cold War Kids, St. Vincent, Bishop Briggs), but it’s the forthright, take-no-prisoners performance from WHALEHOUSE that’s the real star here.

Quite simply, it’s the perfect introduction to the band, a sweet dose of frenetic party that’s everything you imagined it to be - brash, bold, alien and pop music with more than a hint of weirdness from three besties who know how to spark a good time, every time.
