Bio

Recently returning from tour dates in the UK, Whitaker are back in their beloved hometown of Melbourne to celebrate the release of their forthcoming EP ‘I Am An Animal’ out October 30th and launch at Melbourne's Shebeen on Saturday October 31st.

When Whitaker set sail for the UK armed with a handful of guitars, ‘80s synths and a drum machine, one might’ve been forgiven for thinking they were a hip-hop act. Fans across the globe, however, were already well accustomed to Whitaker’s epic, cinematic sound after the international success of their debut EP ‘Wichita’.

Since its release, ‘Wichita’ has been heard by millions of TV and Film viewers, with big ticket productions Suits and MTV’s Teen Wolf using Whitaker’s music. This success sent the band on a whirlwind international tour. Now, having returned to Australia, Whitaker are hitting the ground running with their ambitious follow-up EP, I AM AN ANIMAL.

While the electronic sounds of I AM AN ANIMAL are inspired in part by the retro (less Grandmaster Flash - more Peter Gabriel), the band is looking to the future. Whitaker’s folky roots combined with the warmth of edgy analogue synthesisers and drum machines create something rich, vast and harmonious. Honest songwriting that explores the nature and future of man meshes perfectly with grand instrumentation that wouldn’t be out of place in Kubrick’s ‘2001 - A Space Odyssey’.

Whitaker has evolved once more.
