Bio

Conceived in a bedroom in mid 2012, White Caves is the nom de plume of Melbourne’s Darren Cordeux. As a way of coping with his recurring insomnia, Cordeux holed himself up in a room with nothing but his guitar, a collection of effects pedals and a tape machine. Six months and a small ocean of coffee and beer later, White Caves was born.

Inspired by the dreamy guitar drones of Spiritualized, Ride and My Bloody Valentine along with the breezy pop sensibilities of The Kinks, Cordeux’s aim was to take these influences and “create lavish soundscapes with virtually no budget”. The result is a sweeping, textured wall of sound executed with the unimpeded rawness of a true DIY artist.

Following on from the release of the acclaimed White Caves EP in October 2013, Cordeux recruited some friends for the live incarnation of White Caves and the band subsequently played their first string of shows, mesmerizing audiences with their hypnotic slabs of guitar-driven bliss.

White Caves released their latest single ‘Dig’ as a free download via Bandcamp on March 24. Mixed by Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets), ‘Dig’ takes the swirling textures found on the White Caves EP and turns up the distortion. A limited edition 7” version of the single is now available via bandcamp.

Great depth, undeniable melodies, and a very familiar voice. Winner.

I was ready to nod off when I saw it was 6 mins long. But Darren's channeled a little bit of psychedelia, '90s shoegaze and some great hooks into this new track and makes it go the distance.
