Bio
Wilde Child. I make honest music. Latest EP, Void, available for free on bandcamp. http://wildechild.bandcamp.com/
Wilde Child are a rockin' Byron Bay duo and one of the winners of our Splendour In The Grass competition. They'll be opening the Supertop at Splendour on Sunday July 29.
Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?
Well, I listen to a lot of different styles of music - 80s Hardcore, Grunge, Indie, Alternative etc so I think, that, coupled with my coastal lifestyle and the necessity to be able to play everything has left me with quite a unique sound!
You’re one of the winners of our Splendour In The Grass competition. What can Splendour revelers expect from the Wilde Child live show?
Without giving too much away...we’ll be covering a pretty fast song that will hopefully get everyone doing the ol’ side-to-side! We will also have a special friend of ours playing tambourine, I think every band needs a dedicated percussionist.
What are you most looking forward to about Splendour In The Grass? Who are you psyched to see?
I’m really excited to see what that crowd looks like from the opposite side of what I’m normally used to seeing, you know, the stage. Mudhoney, Explosions in the Sky, Smashing Pumpkins, At the Drive-In, Jack White and Tame Impala are on my to-do list haha!
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
I’ve been given a lot of great advice over the years, I could never really remember any genius one-liners off the top of my head though. However, a band by the name of Have Heart once wrote “In this world, they choose to see me, like a setting sun. So its up to me, I have to see me, like the rising one.” It just means, you have to believe in yourself because sometimes no one else will.
What’s coming up in 2012?
We have our first full-length album coming out after two EPs, it’s titled Hometown Blues and I’m super excited to release it. We hope to tour down the East Coast to launch it, make some new friends and experience some unforgettable moments along the way. Then it’s back to writing and recording the next one!
Australian music is...
...starting to pump out some really decent tunes.... I was almost worried for a while there. I’m only kidding! All my friends are really great musicians and I doubt you could find what we have anywhere else in the world.
