It has been over a year since Wilson Blackley turned 16 and decided to pursue a music career and in that time he has recorded and released his first EP ‘Elephant’, written two hours of original music and toured Victoria and New Zealand with his signature sound - an eclectic acoustic mix of roots, rock, folk and soul . Now 17 (or almost 18, as he pitches it to venues in Melbourne), he’s working on recording his first album, honing his craft while gigging around Melbourne and regional Victoria.
From his early gigs around Gippsland he was lead to be a Sunday headline at the Food Truck Carnival in Phillip Island, then onto the Festival of Small Halls. He also made his debut festival performance at NYE On The Hill! Since then he’s taken his music to Melbourne, playing in various venues to crowds of growing fans. Wilson has supported such acts as The Black Sorrows, Mental As Anything John Flanagan and many more.
In both songwriting and performance, Wilson has developed a style that is distinctly his own. A blend of genres and passions, from old soul to roots and blues, with splashes of pop and rock and no small amount of dynamism. His focus is on acoustic music, his tools being his trusty Maton guitars and lapsteel.
On July 7th featured on the live music TV showcase, Live At Spectrum.
