Winston is the greatest piano-driven-classically-influenced-alternative-indie-rock-pop group ever to have graced the earth. The band is built around the songwriting talents of singer/pianist Gary Newman, who began composing music in London after his Spanish housemates sat him in front of his piano and made him smoke a joint. As it turns out the sounds that emerged were quite pleasant to the ear and after returning to Melbourne, Newman collaborated with violinist Kat Morgan. Morgan’s classical background and ability to almost instantly compose countermelodies complemented Newman’s music perfectly. After a year playing as a duo, Winston was formed when the pair met drummer Stu Hazelman from The Hazelman Brothers and Mark Stipic, former bass player for The Hollow.
