Bio

After her debut performance with Hein Cooper on Triple J’s “Like a Version’, Wolfe Black is set to release her first single ‘Runaway’ in October 2019. It is a captivating taste of Wolfe’s upcoming EP due for release in 2020.

After settling in Canada to explore a new world beyond her home in Australia, Wolfe spent the past 5 years in the city of Montreal building the foundations of her sound and collecting inspiration from the sometimes wild, icy and eclectic settings of Quebec.

Being cooped up inside for the long winters gave Wolfe the time to experiment mixing genres such as folk/pop/electronic/world music and cinematic soundtracks to create a sound that pushed her musical attributes into new territory while still retaining her core, powerful sound. Originally a classically trained violinist and Jazz/soul vocalist, mixing genres was inevitable when it came to creating her own music.

Initially collaborating with Montreal based composer William St Laurent to form the foundations of her sound, Wolfe eventually formed a relationship with long-time friend Hein Cooper and the two also began collaborating musically to further develop her ideas. Collectively, they began to finalise the earlier demos of ‘Runaway’ and went on to co-produce it with William and Jarryd Shuker (Art of Sleeping).

Wolfe explains “The inspiration for ‘Runaway’ is about feeling so pressured by society, the unrealistic influence of social media and today’s environmental and world issues that all you want to do is run away”. With an alluring mix of Venezuelan, Syrian and Australian roots, an empathetic soul and a love of nature, Wolfe’s deep, inner discontent was the catalyst for her desire to initially leave Australia in 2014 in search of that elusive ‘something else’. Wolfe found an avenue to voice her thoughts through her music.

The musician has now brought all this material back to Australia and is ready to reveal all she’s been working on.

Recognised Wolfe from Hein Cooper's Like A Version earlier in 2019! That voice is a chiller and really seeps into your skin.
