Melodic, mature, mesmerizing... Forming in Adelaide, South Australia. Zen Stella have proven themselves as a solid Alternative/Progressive act. A healthy mix of methodical and instinctive song writing, engaging live shows and commitment to creating a great musical experience are all part of the Zen Stella ethos. Supporting the likes of rising Sydney outfit Breaking Orbit and playing with International touring band Ne Obliviscaris at progressive music festival 'Progfest' amongst many other successful shows, has garnered them heavy local buzz. Zen Stella depict a sound that is moody, mysterious, yet surprisingly uplifting. Prominent characteristics of Zen Stella's sound include strong vocal delivery, a tight-yet-spacious rhythm section and intertwining guitar lines. The band also take on darker elements in some tracks such as 'Deviate', the single track from their debut EP. Zen Stella started pre-production and the initial recording of their first release with local producer James Chang. The band set out to take the listener on a sonic roller coaster ride, from serene and controlled moments to heavy and epic passages without seeming contrived. Their 'all hands on deck' approach has helped them to refine their sound, giving anyone who samples their studio creations an honest representation of who they are as a live act. Zen Stella enlisted the help of the legendary Leon Zervos (The man behind recordings of such bands as Muse, Dream Theater, INXS) to master the EP and local illustrator Chris Edser (Illustration and design for Australian band, The Beards) to put together the cover art. The collaboration of these individuals, along with the musical nous of the band, has resulted in a pure display of self expression, both visually and musically.
