ZHEANI

Bio

Australian rapper and songwriter Zheani makes uncompromised art - her raps are raw and unfiltered, her photos are censored by social media, and her music videos are performance art pieces that push both limits and buttons. She is staunchly DIY with a punk-rock mentality to her approach of art and music.

Zheani emerged into the internet lime light from a small country town in Australia. Hailing from a rough background, experiencing circumstance such as foster care and relative poverty, her ambitions stand in stark contrast to her upbringing. Her dark past echoes in her music but is transformed into a sigil of strength and perseverance.

Through the internet, she found a core strength in her fans and supporters. In early 2019 Zheani dropped the lighthearted escapism single and music video for "Lie and Look." The video featured her dressed as a fairy trap witch making her way through an enchanted forest and quickly became a fan favorite and viral hit with over 1 million views.

The Aussie rapper, Zheani, then made headlines regarding internet controversy with her song “The Question.” The allegations immediately made news with a flurry of press reporting the story including Fader, No Jumper, ToneDeaf, MixMag, YourEDM.com and countless others. The fallout prompted Zheani to dig in and drop a video for "The Question," which featured screenshots of DMs and text messages backing up her claims that went viral and resulted in over a million views on Youtube. The response and support for Zheani was overwhelming and empowered more people to step forward and tell their stories.

She followed that up with the release of her critically acclaimed 4-song EP "Satanic Prostitute.” The album was co-produced by King Yosef and recorded over a 4-day period. Throughout the album, Zheani experiments with new sounds and crosses various genres ranging from trap metal, to elements of pop, laced with her trademark prurience. The effort was rushed, raw, unpolished and uncompromising and accompanied by a music video that was censored from both YouTube and PornHub.

In August 2019, Zheani returned with her newest single and video for “LULU.” The new song is a melodic trap, pop song, again based on positive affirmation and escapism. Titled after a fictional character, “LULU,” who refuses to allow negativity to drag her down despite feeling lonely and isolated. Zheani says, “The track is empowering, encouraging listeners to look inside themselves and discover their hidden magic.”

Zheani has been back in the studio working on new music along with exploring other avenues of artistic expression.

Something a less searing and a little more introspective from Zheani this time round. She's an artist who's certainly lived a hell of a life and puts all of it into her songs.

fk what a trip into your own personal realm, Zheani. The aesthetic is heavy but I think Zheani evens the balance with this burst of ideas and wavy energy.
