about Unearthed

discover the best new Australian music

discover

Established in 1995, triple j Unearthed has kicked off the careers of thousands of musicians. With well over 120,000 tracks, it's also a great place to discover your new favourite band.

You can upload and share your tracks with fellow artists and music lovers by signing in and creating an artist page.

triple j Unearthed also has a full time digital radio station playing the very best music from triplejunearthed.com.

Through triple j's ongoing commitment to developing new Australian acts, we run regular competitions that give you the chance to play at some of Australia's biggest festivals, record your music professionally, have film clips produced by talented emerging directors and attend industry events to learn more about the music business.

The Unearthed story began in regional New South Wales when triple j’s regional roll-out kicked off in Lismore in 1995. Along with triple j switching on in regional centres across Australia, a local band would be ‘unearthed’ at every stop. The winners of the first Unearthed competition in Lismore were Grinspoon.

In 2006, Unearthed relaunched as the place where independent Australian artists could upload and share their independent recordings online - a direct line to the audience for artists who may not have had a platform to do so otherwise.

Then in 2011, the Unearthed digital radio station launched – and it hasn’t stopped since. Unearthed music can now fill an entire radio station, and there are thousands of Unearthed artists and songs which can be found on our website. The whole Unearthed project remains a valuable first step for Australians musicians trying to find an audience.

listen

You can stream tracks or download MP3s from the site, from the app or listen to the digital radio station playing 100% unsigned and independent music 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you register with Unearthed you’ll also be able to write reviews, rate tracks or create and share killer playlists.

create

We’ve built the venue and invited the audience, but we’re relying on you to get out there and strut your stuff.

All you have to do is sign up as an artist, upload your music to the site and voila! You’ll get your very own artist page where people can find out about you, listen to your music and tell you what they think. The only requirement is that you don't already have a recording contract with a major record label.

Once your music is on Unearthed it’s automatically in the running for all the current competitions.
