What happens when an alternative rock guitarist picks up an acoustic guitar and starts performing roots music solo? You get Tracey Barnett. The West Australian singer-songwriter has earned a reputation for heartfelt song-writing and exhilarating shows thanks to her distinctive, high-energy brand of blues and roots. That reputation saw her crowned 'Best Regional Act' at the 2018 West Australian Music Industry Awards. Armed with an acoustic guitar, harmonica, stomp-box and fearless vocals, Tracey weaves her emotive and passionate stories into your very soul. People love the energy and skill behind her powerhouse stage presence, and are moved and inspired by her emotive lyrics, solid rhythm and slide guitar hooks. While some performers might choose to go down the full band path after a taste of success, Tracey made a conscious choice to stay true to her roots and perform mainly solo. It’s a decision that’s paid off bigtime for the Bridgetown local. Along side receiving West Australian Music Industry Award for 'Best Regional Act' 2018, multiple nominations in the West Australian music scene, Song of the Year awards, and national recognition for her songwriting, Tracey was also a finalist in the Gympie Muster Talent Search in 2019, and has performed at many of WA’s biggest folk, blues and roots festivals. After the success of the first single 'Gotta Get Out' from her upcoming album (released Spring 2020), 'Tracey's latest single 'Eye's Forward', delves into a myriad of genres forging a sound that is identifiable as the Tracey Barnett brand. Think bluegrass meets pop acoustic rock. This upbeat and inspiring number features several instruments including banjo, dobro, harmonica and Tracey's seamless harmonies. Previously having released two EPs and her debut album Heart, Soul, Feeling (2017), Tracey has been receiving plenty of airplay across community radio, ABC Radio, Triple J’s Roots ‘n All program and Double J. From festivals to intimate venues, Tracey's music fills any space with a powerful energy and an uplifting sense of hope. Her thrilling live shows have connected with audiences across her home state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern, all the way to the east coast of Australia. What people are saying “Tracey has an energy that is infectious and a determination that can not be ignored. Her songs speak from the bottom of her soul and reflect the sound and scenery of her West Australian roots with an elegance that is unique.” - Shaun Kirk, musician “Always incredible when a woman straddles the Blues, whilst allowing her authentic self to shine through and give it her own. Tracey has grown into her skin and it makes for a great musical treat. She's got what it takes!” - Phaedra Watts, Festival Director, Nannup Music Festival “There’s something undeniably captivating about the music of Tracey Barnett. Over the past number of years, the Bridgetown-based artist has crafted a sound that feels simultaneously grounded and dynamic; it’s rooted in acoustic sounds, but energetically, reaches into far wider territories.” - Happy Mag
