The Sugarcanes are true believers in the Rock n Roll gospel. They bring their love and heartbreak, their energy and aching loneliness into every tune. Formed in 2014, they’ve been pouring their emotions into their music ever since and capturing audiences’ hearts along the way.
Led by the talented Wilson siblings, Jack and Lucy, the Sugarcanes were started with the intent to encapsulate the best of the music they love. The band’s soon to be released album, Songs for Modern Lovers, draws on influences from such 70s classics as the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St and Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited, and invokes contemporaries such as the Alabama Shakes, andNathanielRateliff. Songs for Modern Lovers builds lovingly on these past and present sounds and creates something exhilaratingly new.
This album is the much awaited follow up to their widely acclaimed self-titled debut album released in 2016 which was launched to a sold-out show, took out Beat magazines’ album of the week, and was nominated for numerous awards.
Since this release, band has been kept busy by extensive touring with a diverse list of acts such as The Smith Street Band, Loose Tooth and The Bennies, and festival appearances including Meredith Music Festival, Boogie, and regional stalwarts The Summer of Soul and Beechworth Music Festival (where the band was asked back three years in a row).
Now is the time to get out and see the Sugarcanes who are guaranteed to fill your heart with good ol Rock n Roll.
