Horror My Friend are a post-punk 3-piece with some fuzzy, frenetic and mighty fine tunes.

Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?

When we finished year 12, the bands that we were previously in had all broken up, so we all got together to jam. We had all played in fairly quiet bands before hand and wanted a change of pace in terms of sound, so we got out the overdrive and fuzz pedals and started playing loud music and we loved it. Around this time, we had all really started getting heavily into 90's bands like Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr, along with 90's influenced bands like Yuck and Violent Soho, so that's a big contributor too.

What’s the Horror My Friend live show like?

I think one of the most important things about playing live is just having fun and being enthusiastic, it's always a bit disappointing when you go see a band that you like and they're just standing and looking a bit bored. I guess we just try to have as much fun on stage as possible, throwing ourselves around in the heavy bits and stuff like that. When you get into it so does the crowd and if they're not getting into it we try to make it happen, by playing in the crowd or inciting stage invasions. The stage invasion thing only worked one time, at our single launch last year, there was a lot of drunk people and we had about 20 people up on this small stage for the last few songs, that was really fun...we'll make it happen again soon. Along with that, Josh and I swap between guitar/bass, as well as vocal duties, which is fun. You can also expect awkward banter.

Tell us about the bands, producers and people in the Adelaide music community that inspire you?

There's so much to talk about here, Adelaide has some great bands/people. Ride Into The Sun are one of our favourite bands in Adelaide and they're also our rehearsal space buds. They play this awesome Brian Jonestown Massacre/Black Angels Psych Rock and they do it so well, they're heading over to the US soon and playing at the Austin Psych Fest! Sincerely, Grizzly are really cool and doing so well! Great guys, although Josh Calligeros still owes us a 64.4kg Indonesian Swordfish for picking him up while he was drunk/stranded in town. Archers are awesome and Brain their guitarist has alot of fangirls. Also bands like Dead End Friends, Kids With Teeth, Animal House, Sleeptalker, Charlie Monsoon and Bad//Dreems are all awesome! Producer Matt Hills, great friend and a great producer. He puts up with our immaturity during recording and even plays some pretty good jokes on Al. Organisations and people like Fourwords, Cats, 5/4 Entertainment, Radio Adelaide, Rip It Up, 3D radio, Spoz's Rant and Play/Pause/Play.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?

Pretty much, you can't wait for good shows and opportunities to come to you, you have to make them happen. Play lots of shows when you start out, practice every week if not more, meet and talk to people in the industry/other bands and send lots of emails. That was from Banjo Weatharald (Jimmy and the Mirrors), before we had ever played a show.

What’s coming up for you in 2013?

2013 is looking really exciting, we're doing a tour starting on the 5th of April , which includes three supports on the British India "Controller" tour and a bunch of shows up the east coast and Adelaide! In addition to this, we'll be releasing another single sometime in the next few months and hopefully starting work on an EP at the end of the year! It's gonna be good.

Australian music is…?

...pretty, pretty good.
