Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

My music and sound has developed through life experiences and interactions with inspiring individuals.

What's your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

My greatest source of inspiration has mostly been from pain, failure and the urge to learn and grow from what we have no control over or understand.

What can punters expect from a Promise live show?

Punters can expect a lot of crowd interaction and passionate live performances with a variety of all sounds.

What's the best advice you've been given and who was it from?

The best advice I have been given was from a close friend who said "try and paint a picture of who you are with your words, because as a listener we don't know who you are and what you have been through".

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

Shannon Noll - 'What About Me'

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

Missy Higgins - 'The Special Two'. She is my dream feature!

You're the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

Hilltop Hoods - 'Cosby Sweater'

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

Quartermasters in the city of Hobart. It was intimate with an acoustic vibe and sound that only a small venue can produce.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Tasmanian music community that inspire you.

Some of the artists and bands I find inspiring include Hip Hop artist, Greeley. He has been giving everybody in the local scene a platform to push their voices out with his THCtv series and connecting and bringing more attention to the local scene. Wombat is an excellent lyricist and exciting up and coming artist too. My close friend Jay Jerome Bushby, plays almost every night in most of the venues in Hobart and has an amazing voice. I also find Liam Tally who is making amazing production, music and the smoothest RnB in his soul band, Laser Baby and even though they have moved recently to Melbourne, I find Close Counters and Junior Brando inspiring too.

What are your plans for 2017?

Learn, grow and work harder.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

I just listen to artists that I like, and how they get their personalities across through their music. I also recorded a bunch of songs that will never see the light of day, and worked my arse of until I was happy with how they sounded. With the beats, we tried to create a balance of organic sounds, with electronic bass instruments, though still trying to keep it as natural as possible.

What’s a Remi live show like?

If it’s up to my friends, wild as f**k! I love performing live, so I just get really amped and, usually, the crowd feeds off that and it results in pandemonium.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?

Everything that J Smith (producer) has ever told me. Except for when he tells me I should eat less Nando’s, then he doesn’t know what the f**k he’s talking about.

Tell us about the bands, producers and people in the Melbourne music community that inspire you.

I’m pretty lucky in the sense that the people who inspire me are in my team. Whether it is, Run For Your Life or the UY collective. J Smith has probably been my biggest inspiration/mentor. N’fa’s been like a brother and mentor. Syreneyiscreamy & Chris Scott’s voices make me pull my finger out on hooks. My homie Jarryd Williams, who is the other Leader of the UY collective, makes me hustle. Everyone else holds down his or her own instruments, whether it’s a camera or knowledge about the industry, and that makes you want to work harder. It’s basically my family (both real and musical) that inspires me, in the un-cheesiest way possible.

What’s coming up for you in 2012?

I’ve got a gig this Wednesday for Uncomfortable beats at Bar Open on Brunswick Street, that I’m pretty excited for. Heading up to Sydney this weekend to See Hau with the Run For Your Life peeps. Got some gigs in Perth during March, which will be siiiiiiick. Writing a bunch more tracks, and finding out how to make money by doing this music shit.

Australian music is…?

...slept on by the world.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
My music is always evolving, you have to be adaptable if you have plans to stay relevant for years and years. I always try to keep my influences living in my music (even though you can't exactly tell where I'm drawing the inspiration from or what artist I'm channelling at the time). I like to keep an emphasis on slick wordplay and delivery no matter what I'm making, so you can always find that in my music, even though it's much more than that.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
The usual things that inspire other creatives. Things I've experienced, other music, the way a certain design looks, the way different colours look next to each other, the way a certain soundscape is. Even the things that are "trending" - but sort of stepping back from that and analysing why something is popular and pushing people to unlock what we all have to begin with- that they can create greatness too.

What can punters expect from your live show?
A little bit of everything, I make the music for people to listen to what I'm saying, so I let it speak for itself on stage. I'll change my hype levels according to the songs being played, so everyone can go through the experience with me. I think if people go to watch me, they'll be happy they did haha.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
Anything that comes out of Sensible J's mouth.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
"Liona" - Nasty Mars. Check it here!

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
"Take U 2 Da Moviez" - Bangz

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
"Ignore" - Alison Wonderland with Baro

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
haha It was actually one 90'sRD (our collective if you don't know) was playing at. It was a crazy night! We supported Remi at the Northcote Social. It went down! Ended up on stage with Rem', Hau, N'fa, One Sixth and Baro for a live cypher! 1/6 is one of my favourite rappers too so that was an amazing night for me.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Melbourne music community that inspire you.
My friends mainly. Baro, Charlie Threads, Yobi Masenqo, Mose`, Te Waere, KushDaddySlavens, Nasty Mars, Sol' Manic. We push each other to be the best we can be.

What are your plans for the rest of 2015?
After Splendour and supporting Baro's tour, I'll be commencing my next project, probably an EP. I'm keen to just keep building.
