Emerging Rockhampton singer/songwriter, Bec Ellen is influenced by performers such as Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, The Pretty Reckless and Stevie Nicks. Music to Bec is the freedom to tell stories, convey emotion, be vulnerable and relate to others through a powerful and personal medium. Bec has never really lived the life of a normal teenager. In 2012, she started getting sick; by her first day of high school, she couldn’t even function. For two long years Bec battled constant nausea causing weight loss, fatigue to the point where getting out of bed was a struggle, and skin so sensitive it hurt just to be touched. After many, many doctor, hospital visits and inconclusive tests she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME). Bec had to give up her goal of completing school in her final year to focus on getting well; no formal, no graduation, and no celebration. But there was always music and Bec wouldn’t change this for anything because, through isolation, illness, anxiety and depression, she realised her passion for creating music and performing would be a part of her life forever. Bec believes her struggles have given her a unique perspective on life and wouldn’t be where she is today if it wasn’t for music. Bec turned to music to help fill her days and the artists she discovered resonated with her in a way nothing else had before. She picked up her Dad’s guitar and started playing and writing songs and quickly realised that her purpose was to give the same sense of understanding, passion and the comfort she received through this medium to others. Well on her way to recovery, Bec says music gives her purpose and she sings every day. Bec’s first music video for her song ‘Love Isn’t Easy’ can be found on the YouTube channel for Blue Eagle Productions, who created and produced the visual piece. ‘Love Isn’t Easy’ along with several other original songs will soon be recorded for her first EP being released later in 2018.
