Brisbane, QLD

We can't get enough of the hook-laden, sunshine-drenched pop of Brisbane quartet Morning Harvey.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
I think our sound is still developing. I'm constantly trying new things to push myself further. In relation to what this record will sound like... I feel like I've ditched my filter I usually have and whenever I find myself asking the question "does this fit?", I usually say yes.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
Definitely listening to as much music as possible, as much variety too. When I was a little fella I didn't read too many books at'll. Bedtime would come and I'd sit in my room and put on whatever cd I could get my hands on, press play and constantly read the lyrics back and forward until I knew them off by heart. It's funny, still to this day I'll hear even the slightest snippet from a song and picture an exact place or situation I was in when I first heard it.

What can punters expect from a Morning Harvey live show?
I don't know how to answer this question, but I know we always look forward to playing in front of people. And if we see people enjoying themselves then that's even better.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Probably not to make compromises - and if you're not happy with how something sounds or feels, it's only going to become worse years down the track if you go through with it.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
At 2:30 he belts his voice out. It kills me every time.

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
The Creases at Wooly Mammoth. They're always fabulous.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Brisbane music community that inspire you.
Whenever I see our friends bands do great things it drives me to do more. It's a cool community here because everyone is always on top of everything new any of our bands are doing. At parties you'll most likely find most of us in someone's room listening to demos etc.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?
Final touches to our debut album and some touring.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

I guess it's just where I've naturally ended up from having a lot of different influences and being quite intuitive and open with making music. I listen to a lot of experimental styles of music but I also love pop music and I always want to find ways to use those experimental sounds in a pop framework.

What's your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

I think more than anything I just love sound. It affects me very deeply and feels very natural for me to express myself through it.

What can punters expect from a Lonelyspeck live show?

Probably to chill out and just have a nice emotionally vulnerable time I hope.

What's the best advice you've been given and who was it from?

I learnt from a couple of my teachers in art school to not be afraid of making mistakes or making a mess. And I've learnt from my friends and myself that softness and vulnerability are strength.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

Qwerty - Ano Yan

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

Hummingbird - Make A Space

You're the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

Buoy - Clouds & Rain (Collarbones Remix)

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

Allume, Naomi Keyte and Water Bear. It was lovely! Allume and Naomi both made me almost cry, and I unfortunately missed Water Bear but I know she's great.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Adelaide music community that inspire you.

There are a lot... Allume and her other project Hummingbird (with Arthur Miles), Tracy Chen, Strict Face, Sebastian Vivian, PNK FME...

What are your plans for 2017?

I definitely want to play a couple of interstate shows in support of my EP 'Lave', which comes out on March 3. And I'm looking forward to getting straight back into writing new music because I've got a lot of ideas! I'm excited for this year and I want to make the most of everything that happens.
