Electronic (Ant Honey Electronic Music Sad Robots Feels Quirky)
We're so excited to be featuring Sydney producer and vocalist, CLYPSO. Get ready for a fusion of jungle beats, grimey basslines, atari-esque synths and afropunk infused electronica.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
I like to call it troppo-chilli-flakes because it's a blend of scattered beats, grimey bass lines and I also shout a lot. I feel like my music has become an extension of everything I’ve listened to as a kid to now. I realise this more and more with each song I make. It’s kinda freaky.
What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
It’s addictive and the idea that something comes out of nothing is fascinating and I’m inspired by that.
What can punters expect from a CLYPSO live show?
Me singing and dancing my heart out with my keyboard, drum pad and sampler. I’ve also done some shows with dancers.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
"Always know your emergency exits and how to use a fire extinguisher". Optimistic Dad.
What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
'Throw Your Arms Around Me' by the Hunters and Collectors. There's nothing quite like a singalong-cry-along with a mate to make things better.
What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
Annie Bass, and her track, 'Don’t Want'.
You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
Swindail and his track, 'Two Stomp (+5 BPM)'.
What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
Shameless plug alert. Kwame’s show at The Lair (Metro). It got real loose.
Tell us about the bands or people in the Sydney music community that inspire you.
Community radio peeps and all the different crews and collectives I've been meeting. Girls Rock Sydney who do great work inspiring the next gen but also my female producer pals. Support and community are important.
What are your plans for 2018?
