Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
Columbus is a 3-piece punk band that plays upbeat music with generally sad and melancholic lyrics. The band's sound developed slowly to where it is now through the changing of our own individual musical influences and from the experience over time of writing and playing more music.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
The band's greatest source of inspiration for making music is simply the fun of writing, recording and performing a song. However in regards to lyrics, the band usually takes inspiration from personal problems and experiences.

What can punters expect from a Columbus live show?
Punters can expect energetic punk tunes with lots of yelling and sad facial expressions.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
This might be an odd choice, but I’d probably try and play them the entirety of Frenzal Rhomb’s ‘Sans Souci’. While it may not be your quintessential ‘everything’s going to be okay’ type of album, I think that is honestly just too funny (and too good) an LP for someone not to crack a smile whilst listening to it.

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
‘My New Dress Up Shoes’ by The Smith Street Band, for sure. For anyone who hasn’t heard SSB’s first E.P ‘South-East Facing Wall’, definitely give it a spin - it rules. My New Dress Up Shoes is the closing track on the E.P, and it is one of the most heart-wrenching and tear-inducing songs you will ever hear.

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
I feel like I would be the last person you’d want DJing a party, as my playlist would probably just alternate between a few shoegaze bands and Gucci Mane (listened to ironically, of course). To answer the question seriously though, either ‘Sensi Mi’ or ‘Knights Forever’ by The Bennies. Both of those tracks (and the whole album for that matter) are really jiggy and could hypothetically be danced to, if you were so inclined.

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
Last local show I went to that we didn't play would have had to be Trophy Eyes, Worthwhile and Ambleside at The Brightside in Brisbane. The show was amazing. All 3 of those bands are a headliner in their own right and didn't disappoint. Local band Vitals also opened the show and killed it, one of my favorite bands in QLD. In my opinion The Brightside is also one of the best venues in Australia.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Brisbane music community that inspire you.
Chris Hunter has run shows at Fat Louie's in Brisbane for as long as I can remember and the guy is an absolute Brisbane legend and does so much to keep shows running there. We've been privileged enough to play 'Fats' a number of times and it's always so much fun. Travels are also a band that inspires me to keep having fun playing music. One of the most energetic and passionate hardcore bands I've seen.

What are your plans for 2015?
Our second EP 'Home Remedy' is dropping next Monday the 19th of January. Really excited to be kicking the year off with that. We also have a couple of tours in the works for this year, which we can't really say much about at the moment, but will definitely be seeing a very large portion of Australia this year. Along with this, we'll hopefully be tracking some new songs before the year is out!
