Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

I’d describe my music as dark rnb with certain trap and rock elements infused. I first came up with the sound when I used to produce for myself. But I truly honed in on it when I met another producer called LucianBlomKamp who showed me how I could use dark and warm bass to highlight the overtones in my voice. From the point on I knew that was the sound I wanted to create. Something new and true to myself.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

I love watching Love films, video games and Anime cause a lot of the stories inspire me to dive into a world that is open and different every time. I then take these worlds and attach them to my own real life stories and activities. Making them more meaningful.

What can punters expect from a Jeida Woods live show?

I want to bring crazy energy to what people think is going to be a chill show because it’s rnb. So if you come to a Jeida show he prepared to be put through a lot of emotions. Get ready to jump, sing, dance or cry. Just bring a lot of energy.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?

My mother always told me “You’ll always get further staying true to you than being someone else” and as I grow older I find that to be the case so much. When I started putting my music out there I wanted to be like everyone else. I was so focused on embracing the American side of me that I would hide the African/Australian part of myself because I was scared to be and create music stuff that was my own. Now a lot has changed, and I’m proud to be who I am and that’s thanks to my mother.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

I would probably say listen to something hype from my friends Tkay Maidza or Kwame. Every time I listen to their music it always seems to lift my mood up and get me hyped up.

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

‘Selfless’ by Jeida Woods, sometimes that song makes me cry too haha.

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

I’m definitely putting on ‘Throw It Back’ by B Wise and Manu Crooks.

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

The last local gig I went to would have been in New York late 2019 of a punk rock artist called xScoopsx. It was really dope watching him play because he was representing the African American community in a way that not a lot of individuals would expect to. And therefore making him really unique.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Sydney music community that inspire you.

Honestly there’s so much local talent in Sydney that truly inspires me. Especially up and coming ones. Between the hip hop rap acts of Jaecy and Delawou, to rnb acts like Rachad and Jai Waterford, the underground drill of OTG, hp boys and hooligan hefs.. the list could go on for a long time. and the best part is most of these guys are my friends too which is amazing to see because it means we are all winning together, and I want to continue to see that happening.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

I started making music at 15 years old. I just used to steal random beats online and just do little freestyles and make cd's and give them out to my friends at school. And back then as well, I don't know if anybody remembers, but when we had Bluetooth on the phones, I remember I used to make a song and put it on my phone and Bluetooth it to my friends and people ended up Bluetoothing it to other kids and other kids and one day I was at Blacktown station and I heard somebody playing my song. That's when I knew I was going to make music from here on.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

First time I got introduced to music was listening to Kanye West on the radio. I think that was when I was maybe 11, maybe 12. Me and my family were literally on the way home from church and I wasn't really allowed to listen to hip-hop because of the swearing and so on. So we all listened to gospel music and then one day, Kanye made this song called 'Jesus Walks' and when it came onto the radio, my parents let me listen to it. So from there on, I went on to become a big Kanye fan.

Tell us about your latest single 'My World'

'My World is about me being myself and not caring about what other people think.
