Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

Our music is really signature to us, you could say its a smash together of lots of different genres (which depicts our music taste pretty well) recently we've moved towards a sound that is a lot more us, progressing from twinkly pop-rock into a more powerful 90s grunge sound, we hope you're all liking it as much as we do!

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

We think our greatest inspiration for making music is each other! We've all been really close since primary school, and making music with your best pals is as inspirational as it gets. It's really exciting for us to be able to all work together on something we're so passionate about and have fun while doing it!

What can punters expect from a Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers live show?

Punters can expect a whole lot of wholesome vibes at Teen Jesus shows, we love making the crowd feel inclusive, welcome and love busting out a boogie on stage.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?

The best advice we've ever been given is probably to have fun! Sounds a bit cheesy but we got told this when we first started the band and by living by that advice we've managed to have the best time in our music career so far.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

'Older' by Parcels would definitely be the song we'd choose to cheer someone up if they're crying. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thinks its impossible to not get up and boogie to this song.

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

'Don't know how to keep loving you' by Julia Jacklin, would definitely be our song of choice to make someone cry, we're tearing up just thinking about it tbh.

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

If we were the DJ at a party I'd say we'd have to slip in a sneaky little Kylie Minogue 'cant get you out of my head'.

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

The last local gig we went to was at a small cute venue called 'The Front' ran by our pals at CBR DIG. 4 Canberra bands played stripped back sets to fit the mood, The Tipsy Scholars and Sputnik Sweetheart headlined and it was so bloody wholesome, we LOVE Canberra music scene.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Canberra music community that inspire you.

The Canberra music scene is so inspiring to be a part of, everyone is so inclusive and work really hard to amplify and support the music scene. You can really see the progress that the community has made of the last few years. It may be small but it produces A+ bands and people such as our beautiful talented pals Moaning Lisa and Sputnik Sweetheart (love you both).

What are your plans for 2019?

2019 has been a HUGE year for us so far playing gigs we'd only ever dreamed of, but the excitement continues with our first ever national tour coming up with Slowly Slowly, as well as playing some amazing festivals such as Spilt Milk and Stonefest later in the year!

Get to know this week's triple j Unearthed Feature Artist, Carla Geneve. She's just 19-years-old, has already supported idols Abbe May and Jen Cloher and she's got one of the most clever and relatable tracks we've heard so far this year. Check it out here.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

It's hard to say but I think my music is probably a mix of folk lyrics and structures with rockier or heavier tones. I just started out writing my songs on acoustic guitar when I was younger, then it kinda just got louder and louder. Now I'm really into playing electric with a band, but it's kind of the same singer-songwriter stuff underneath.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

Going out to watch live local shows! I make sure I see a lot of live music in Perth. There are so many great local bands, listening to their ideas and seeing how they do stuff reminds me how much i love playing.

What can punters expect from a Carla Geneve live show?

Some noisy guitar, some awkward stage banter and some (hopefully) loveable stuff-ups.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?

"Mistakes aren't always a bad thing", my Dad.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

'Our Place' by Verge Collection.

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

'Dark Art' by Jen Cloher.

You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

'Ubu' by Methyl Ethyl.

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

Airline Food's EP launch. So Good! It was such a great lineup of friends and music that I love! Go listen to Airline Food's EP 'Fragments in Green', it's the best.

Tell us about the bands or people in the WA music community that inspire you.

Artists that are facing any kind of discrimination here, whether it be due to gender, sexuality, race or another kind, but keep on shredding regardless. Also, my band. They're so bloody talented in their own right, also they're always keen to play, or do something fun.

What are your plans for 2018?

We love playing live shows, and there'll be a heap more of those for sure. I think we're also going to be doing some more recording and releases, which is super exciting! Hopefully some shows over east are coming up sooner or later.
