Dear Seattle

( )

Sydney, NSW

Hailing from the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Dear Seattle bring you an impressive debut with 'The Meadows' and we can't wait to see them explode with tracks jam-packed with raw emotion, nostalgic 90's grunge and soaring strength this year in 2017.

Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?

Our music is like when someone reminds you of the day Cheez TV got cancelled back in 2005; You cop a strong hit of joyful nostalgia, but deep down you know that there's some serious pain and anguish.

The sound came as a bit of a fluke really. We kinda just went to a farm and sunk piss for 7 days straight, writing music between sessions of Billy Madison, Beavis and Butthead and Ace Ventura. So who knows?? Maybe the combo of alcoholism and mid 90's comedy helped us cook in the depressing throwback feeling...

What's your greatest source of inspiration for making music?

Experiences. Everything we write is some kind of reflection of what we've been through, be it as a band or as individuals - It's just the best way to write with genuine heart, and that's what we believe in... Honesty and relatability.

We want people to hear the stories in our songs and be able to think "Ohhhhh crikey, I've felt that S#!% before".

What can punters expect from a Dear Seattle live show?

Blood, sweat and beers.

What's the best advice you've been given and who was it from?

"Don't put your willy in the spa jet" - No idea who told me but I'm glad they did.

What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?

Power And The Passion by Midnight Oil, but only if I could put the music video up on the big screen so they could lap up Peter Garrett's sweet moves. If you haven't seen that video, seriously, do yourself a favour...

What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?

I Touch Myself by Divinyls as I coat my naked self in guacamole and Vegemite

You're the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?

Feed The Rhythm by Client Liaison - No doubt in my mind. And I'd get me one of those puffy jackets too.

What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?

If we're talking local local, as in down at me local kind of local, it'd be Hockey Dad's gig at Mona Vale Hotel.

Absolute sweat fest. Such a treat. Got to catch our mates in Crocodylus beforehand, and it was only a 3 minute stumble home afterwards. You beaut.

Tell us about the bands or people in the Sydney music community that inspire you.

Anybody who is doing whatever they're doing cos they straight up just f$%&ing love it!

From bands writing music they love rather than writing for the audience, to platforms like Unearthed creating mass exposure for small time bands like us all for the love of Aussie music, it's really just a killer time to be in it and creating music at the moment.

I feel like new music is getting more weird and more absurd by the day, and that's groovy cos I feel like I'm doing the same. What's even better is that the kids are seriously itching to get rowdy in support.

What are your plans for 2017?

2017 has proven to us that plans aren't quite the dog's bollocks, and that playing things by ear is the way to go.

Since things have started taking off with The Meadows, this years plans quickly changed from travelling South America for 12 months, to releasing another single, playing heaps of shows, dropping our new EP, and touring the east coast of Aus. So that's kinda the go for the moment!

But who knows, things have been changing every day. Tomorrow I could end up on a super-yacht with Ernie Dingo and a big bag of shrooms for all I know.

Name 3 Unearthed artists you are loving at the moment?

Split Feed - These Newcastle boys are huuuuuge. Absolute ball tearers. So much so that we couldn't help but whack them on our show in Newtown just cos we wanna see them rip it live.

The Football Club - This band is gonna have people all over the world locking themselves indoors for no reason other than the fact that sitting in your room listening to them is better than anything you can do elsewhere. Ivy is one of the best songs I've heard in years come out of Australia, especially lyrically.

Oslow - The new record is so so good! These guys are a testament to what I was saying before about doing it cos you love it. Got to play with them the other night supporting Balance and Composure and their love for what they do is so infectious that you can't help but sing along with a fat grin on your mug.
