Despite an unforgivingly abrupt intro, this tune had me infected after the first bar kicked in. Love the itchy, scratch-poppy stretch of the beat which appears to have been produced entirely with nondescript officey things found in my top drawer. Allen's voice is intimate, emotional and warm with a little bit of crackling - like Paul Dempsey and Wally de backer put in a blender. Musical isolation in the Alice is evident in the landscape of this track, but its obviously afforded him the freedom and headspace to explore and experiment with production on that dark moody laptop of his - great mix and levels and sense of timing. A little evocative of Radiohead too if I might be the cause of controversy!
